Locong Falls Siquijor: A Complete Guide To A Hidden Gem 2024

Perhaps one of the least crowded falls on the island, and somehow still a hidden gem for sure! Locong Falls are found on the island of Siquijor. If you are looking for a quieter waterfall after visiting Cambugahay Falls this is the one to head to. When we visited we were the only tourists there alongside some local kids.

A little oasis hidden down a steep hill boasts great swimming, rock jumping and a rope swing which you can use for free. There are also bamboo benches for you to relax on and soak up the sun or bask in the shade of the rainforest.

Where Is Locong Falls Siquijor?

Locong Falls is located on the south-east of the island, not too far away from some of the best food at Y-Road Restaurant which is definitely worth the stop. Just follow the ring road around the island and turn off when you see the Locong Falls sign post, the island of Siquijor is so simple to navigate!

How To Get To Locong Falls Siquijor?

The best way, and if you’ve read some of our other Siquijor blogs, is by scooter. This allows you to have the freedom of when to leave.

You could also look into hiring a trike but you may need to ask him to wait while you swim and this location is pretty much in the middle of nowhere. You can park your scooter in the shade in the courts which if you’ve sat on a burning scooter seat you know is a win.

Once you’ve arrived a guide will walk you down to the falls. The walk is on rough terrain and pretty steep (especially on the way back up in the heat).

We recommend using 12Go to book Ferries & Busses, also Rome2Rio for all of your travel planning needs in Asia.

How Much Is The Entrance To Locong Falls Siquijor?

Entrance is ₱50 per person. This money provides you a guide for the walk down to the falls. It’s customary to tip your guide on the way back up as well. You can refuse a guide as well if you want to go down alone, a guide is not mandatory!

Locong Falls Siquijor

We liked this waterfall as it was quiet and you didn’t have to pay to do everything there.

At Locong Falls you can:

  • Swim in the deep pool by the waterfall - this was tranquil and you can get right up to the waterfall and allow the refreshing water to flow over you.

  • Jump from the top of the waterfall - you can jump from the rock into the pool below, it’s pretty deep but you need to consider there are a few rocks to watch out for.

  • Use the rope swing - in a secondary pool there is a free rope swing that you can use.

  • Relax on the bamboo benches - perfect for drying off after a swim

Tips For Visiting Locong Falls

  • Take Water Shoes - the terrain is pretty rocky so we always advise wearing shoes, especially if you’re jumping in from the waterfall

  • Bring some food - there are no vendors here but you could easily bring some snacks to eat under the shade of the trees

  • Bring water - the hike back up will make you sweat! We use these Lifestraws

Best Places To Stay Siquijor

Siquijor has lots of accommodation whether you’re looking for a dive school, a luxury resort or a budget hostel you’ll be able to find somewhere. We recommend staying in the main hub of San Juan as this is where most of the restaurants are located as well as easy access to most of the island's attractions.

We use Booking.com and HostelWorld for all of our stays around the world!

Below is a list of top accommodations we recommend for San Juan, Siquijor:

Looking for an eco-lodge away from the main strip? Lazy Lizard is a great budget opiton for your stay in San Juan. Up from the main road it is quiet, in the jungle and offer scooter hire. There’s options for private rooms or shared dorms.
Perhaps you want something more luxury or your here for the diving! Apo Diver’s Resort offers sea views on the beach front with a beautiful pool and chill out spot.
Backing onto Tubod Marine Reserve this is a great luxury choice if you love snorkelling. The resort also boasts a large seafront swimming pool, free coffee and breakfast as well as an on-site restaurant.

Top Things To Do On Siquijor

We stayed 5 nights on Siquijor and think this is the perfect amount of time to see everything the island has to offer. Here’s our highlights.

Top Pick: Cambugahay Falls

Visit early or don’t bother going, this is our top pick as it was so tranquil at 8am plus we saw an iguana!

Best Beach: Salagdoong Beach

An adventure beach with cliff jumps, snorkelling and crystal waters. Although a little drive away, we think it’s worth it.

Off The Beaten Track: Cantabon Cave

Our favourite cave tour of the Philippines and still a hidden gem on the island.

Top Tips For Travelling The Philippines

If you’re visiting the Philippines here are our top travel tips:

  1. Book flights in advance - they can become expensive if you leave it last minute… oh and check your luggage allowance to skip expensive check in fees at the airport. Don't forget your Apple Airtags to track your bags

  2. Agree on taxi prices upfront - when getting into a tuk-tuk, tricycle or taxi, make sure you agree on a price or they have a meter, so many tourists get ripped off with a huge price tag at the end of the ride.

  3. Take it slow - don't feel the need to see all the islands, we recommend picking a few and doing them properly. See the island in full, find some locals and sing Karaoke..

  4. Embrace the chaos and get stuck in, the locals are friendly and love to help and share information about their home!

  5. For a checklist of what's needed to pack for your trip, read: How to Pack for Backpacking to South East Asia: Backpacking Essentials and Accessories

Final Thoughts On Locong Falls Siquijor

Overall we think Locong Falls is one of the last hidden gems left on Siquijor! When we visited there was barely anyone there which made this place stand out, especially compared to the busy and hyped up Cambugahay Falls. If you prefer a bit of peace and quiet then this place is for you, although not quite as beautiful as other spots on Siquijor its still worth the visit.
