Bali is one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations, known for its beautiful beaches, great vibes and amazing surf, but nestled at its heart is deep jungle amongst vast valleys and immense waterfalls. Whether you’re looking for a quick visit to one of the easier to access falls or a full day hiking in the Indonesian heat, the waterfalls trek is worth visiting.

Where Is Munduk’s Four Waterfalls Trekking Point?
The official start that we used is just next to Melanting Cottages, as you walk uphill through the town of Munduk you’ll come to a small parking lot with a path as seen below. You could also start the trek from Munduk’s most accessible Waterfall, Red Coral.
How To Get To The Waterfall Trek Start Point?
The easiest way to the trekking point is to walk! Simply follow the road uphill through the town of Munduk and you’ll soon come to the start.
If you’re staying outside of Munduk town, then the best way to get there is via rental scooter or taxi.
Alternatively, if you don’t want to spend the night in Munduk, you could opt for a day tour which will visit all of the highlights of Munduk in a day.
Munduk Four Waterfalls Walk Summary
We’ll be honest, the full hike is tough! Especially considering the midday heat, however the waterfalls on the route are immense and offer the perfect opportunity to cool off. The route actually involves five waterfalls even though it’s commonly called the four waterfalls trek: Labuhan Kebo, Melanting, Belong, Red Coral (Munduk Waterfall) & Golden Valley, each with its own charm.
Time: 4-8 Hours
Most Impressive: Melanting (or Labuhan Kebo)
Busiest: Red Coral
Most Difficult: Melanting
Just as impressive as Melanting but slightly busier, Labuhan Kebo is a stunning display of Bali’s waterfalls. Once you reach the bottom of the steps, you’ll find a toilet & changing rooms as well as a river, perfect for taking a dip to cool off. A handmade bamboo bridge also allows you to walk the other side of the river to the base of Labuhan Kebo, allowing you to truly feel the power and spray of this immense sight. If you’re thinking of skipping Melanting, we definitely recommend visiting here. Location 📌
We called this the tough one for a reason, all of the steps! From Labuhan Kebo Waterfall the path is all downhill, we saw people walking back from Melanting dripping in sweat and knew we were in for a steep walk. As you climb down the staircase you’ll come to a viewpoint which shows the impressive wall of water cascading down into the valley below. Another hundred or so steps down and you’ll come to the base of the falls which offers an insane photo opportunity. We found it to be much quieter than the other waterfalls as you have to work hard to get to it, which is why it was our favourite! Location 📌
Down a series of muddy steps and across a bamboo bridge you will find Belong Waterfall which is surrounded by large pebbles and tangled rainforest. This is one of the more local falls we visited with less infrastructure (no concrete steps), meaning if it had just rained it might be too slippery to get down. The pool at the bottom of the falls is a great place to take a cold dip in the cold refreshing water to cool off from trekking in the heat of the day. Although Belong Falls isn’t the most popular, we highly recommend a visit! Location 📌
By far the busiest waterfall on the day we visited, probably due to it being the most accessible from day tours around Munduk, Red Coral Waterfall is still an impressive sight to see. Once you have paid the slightly higher than average entry fee (45k IDR), you’ll follow the steps down into a true Balinese paradise with bamboo water chimes ringing in the background. We saw multiple people taking a dip in the refreshing pool at the base of the waterfall, under the raging flow of water past the dark green jungle vines. Location 📌
Just a short hike past Munduk Waterfall is Golden Valley, the only free waterfall on the hike! With a donation box & Eco-Cafe just next to the falls, we chose to give a small donation and buy some drinks while enjoying the amazing view. This grand waterfall is best enjoyed under the shade with a cool drink in hand after a long day trekking! Location 📌

Munduk Waterfalls Common Questions
How Much Will All Of The Waterfall Entrances Cost?
Belong Waterfall: 20,000 IDR
Labuhan Kebo Waterfall: 20,000 IDR
Melanting Waterfall: 20,000 IDR
Munduk Waterfall (Red Coral): 45,000 IDR
Golden Valley: Free! With a donation box & Eco-Cafe
Total for the full day out: 105,000 IDR per person (£5)
How Long Will The Munduk Four Waterfalls Trek Take?
It depends! In total it took us 6 hours to view all five waterfalls and swim at Belong Falls. However, that time is for the whole trek and if you dropped Melanting or Golden Valley Waterfall which are a slightly further walk away we’re sure you could cut that time in half. We also made sure to allow enough time to grab lunch at The Melanting Warung after visiting Labuhan Kebo, which offered an amazing view!
If you’re tight for time, most people just visit Munduk Waterfall which can be accessed from the main road.
How Hard Is The Munduk Waterfall Hike?
We’ll be honest, the full five waterfalls hike was tougher than we were expecting! However, the good news is that you can pick & choose which waterfalls to visit. If you’re looking for more of a relaxing day out, just visit one or two nearest to the trekking point. If you’re not looking for a challenge, we recommend skipping all of the steps down to Melanting, however if you’re looking for a challenge in the midday heat like us, visit them all!
What Is The Best Waterfall Munduk?
This is honestly so hard to answer! For us, the best waterfall on the trek was probably Melanting because we had to work so hard for it! All of the steps down in the midday heat really made us sweat, however the hard work was rewarded with a completely empty falls - we had paradise to ourselves!
We also loved Golden Valley, particularly due to it having a donation box and a nice café on-site where we enjoyed a drink with the amazing view. I think our least favourite was Munduk Waterfall (Red Coral) due to it being the busiest.
What Should I Bring On The Hike?
Good footwear, the trail down can be slippery so we recommend trainers with good grip or water shoes.
A Dry Bag to keep your valuables safe & Waterproof Phone Case so you’re able to take photos with peace of mind
Lots of water! The midday heat of Indonesia is relentless, we love our Lifestraws with an in-built water filter to avoid Bali belly.
Is There Anywhere To Eat On The Hike?
Yes! There are plenty of local warungs to stop in for lunch and huts selling cold drinks. Golden Valley Waterfall also had a donation system instead of a fixed entry fee so we bought some drinks in their Eco-Cafe on-site!
Final Thoughts on The Munduk Four Waterfall Hike
The Munduk 4 Waterfalls Walk was one of our favourite things to do in Northern Bali! Each waterfall we visited transported us into a fairy-tale of Balinese nature, with vast cascading falls all running along the same valley. Some of the falls, specifically Melanting Waterfall, make you work hard to see the immense power; however others, such as Munduk Waterfall, are located just off of the main road meaning they attract more crowds.
Whether you’re looking to just take it easy and relax at the falls, or challenge yourself to hike to all 5, the Munduk Four Waterfalls Trek is not to be missed! Starting from the trekking point, you are transported away from the busy roads and busy Bali tourism straight into a jungle paradise with some of the best tropical waterfalls we’ve ever seen!
