Wondering how to get from Bohol to Siquijor? We’ve got you covered! There are two main options: a direct ferry or stopping over in Dumaguete. The ferry from Siquijor to Bohol is one of the easier journeys in the Philippines however the Oceanjet operator currently only runs once per day and this can be very busy with both locals and tourists especially during peak season (November-April).


Siquijor is a paradise island known for its rich history and black magic, currently the only way to visit the island is via ferry which means its a little more off the beaten track than other destinations such as Palawan. Where Is Bohol In The Philippines

Bohol is one of the main tourist destinations in the central Visayas region of the Philippines, the main city of Tagbilaran was much more hectic than expected, however once you travel out of the city, paradise awaits. Bohol’s iconic Chocolate Hills, the scenic Loboc River, and the adorable tarsiers are must-see attractions. Many travellers choose to stay on the beaches of Panglao Island, exploring the island by rental scooter or guided land tour.

Where Is Siquijor In The Philippines

Siquijor is a small paradise island famous for its black magic and witchcraft by the locals. The island attracts locals & tourists from the neighbouring islands of Bohol, Cebu and Negros who are looking to relax on Siquijor’s best beaches and snorkel in the crystal clear surrounding waters. Some of the island’s highlights include Cambugahay Falls, Salagdoong Beach and Mt Bandilaan National Park.



How To Get From Bohol To Siquijor?

Direct Ferry From Bohol To Siquijor



By far the most convenient and best way to get from Bohol to Siquijor is via a direct ferry which takes 1.5-2 hours and arrives into Siquijor Port in the north of the island. This transport route currently only runs once per day and is popular with many locals & tourists especially in high season, so we recommend you book your tickets in advance to make sure you get on.


If the ferry from Tagbilaran to Siquijor is fully booked or you want to travel at a more flexible time, the alternative option to get from Bohol to Siquijor is multiple ferries, using Dumaguete Port as a stopover.

If the direct ferry is fully booked or you want more flexibility with your travel times, you can travel via Dumaguete. In order to get from Bohol to Siquijor, you’ll first have to get a ferry from Bohol to Dumaguete and then a connecting ferry to Siquijor Port. Overall it should take 3-4 hours and cost at least $17 depending on the seat class you choose.

The Route We Recommend & Our Experience

When travelling from Siquijor to Bohol or vice versa, we chose to get the direct ferry for convenience. Although the Tagbilaran to Siquijor ferry schedule is limited, it's at a good time in the day which is convenient for tourists. It's a super easy journey and there will be lines of taxi drivers waiting in Bohol to pick you up, we chose to get a trike down to Panglao Island which is the main tourist hub, if you like to plan ahead we recommend arranging a private taxi. 


Arrival in Siquijor

Once you have arrived at the Siquijor Port, you’ll need to make your way to your accommodation. We recommend staying in San Juan, the hub and main town, to help plan your trip we have created a Siquijor Best Places To Stay Guide which you might find helpful. From the port, a tricycle to your accommodation will be the best option, alternatively you could rent a scooter.

Siquijor has lots of accommodation whether you’re looking for a dive school, a luxury resort or a budget hostel you’ll be able to find somewhere. We recommend staying in the main hub of San Juan as this is where most of the restaurants are located as well as easy access to most of Siquijor's best things to do.

Looking for an eco-lodge away from the main strip? Lazy Lizard is a great budget opiton for your stay in San Juan. Up from the main road it is quiet, in the jungle and offer scooter hire.  There’s options for private rooms or shared dorms.
Perhaps you want something more luxury or your here for the diving! Apo Diver’s Resort offers sea views on the beach front with a beautiful pool and chill out spot.
Backing onto Tubod Marine Reserve this is a great luxury choice if you love snorkelling. The resort also boasts a large seafront swimming pool, free coffee and breakfast as well as an on-site restaurant.

Top Tips For Travelling To Siquijor Island

If you’re visiting Siquijor here are our top travel tips:


  1. Plan your transport - getting to Siquijor can seem confusing so make sure to plan your route and leave early on your travel day.

  2. Arrive early to Cambugahay Falls to miss the crowds and experience the natural beauty of the area, we arrived at 8am.

  3. Eat Local, we had some of our favourite food in the Philippines here, mainly from Roadside Diner!

  4. Rent a scooter to explore the natural attractions. The island is small so it's the perfect place to learn to ride a scooter, just make sure you wear a helmet.
