Tayangban Cave Pool - A Magnificent Plunge Pool At The End Of An Adventure

Scramble over rocks and wade through waist deep water in a dark cave system, surrounded by magnificent rock formations, mineral deposits and wild bats! This is a top tourist spot for adventurers, the cave walk is only a short 15 minutes, but you’ll emerge out into a paradise pool with vibrant blue water, rope swings and a cliff jump. Location 📌

Cloud 9 Boardwalk - Watch The Professional Surfers And Enjoy A Cold Drink

A large boardwalk stretching 300 meters into the ocean gives you a close up view of the fast barrelling waves over the sharp reef below, watch in fascination as the local surfers ride the waves and do insane tricks. As well as the boardwalk, you can also enjoy beginner or intermediate surf lessons, or just enjoy a cold drink and watch the sunset from the beach. Location 📌

Coconut Tree Viewpoint - The Best Photo Tourist Spot In Siargao

We recommend hiring a scooter or private driver for at least a day to explore Siargao. Coconut Tree Viewpoint overlooks thousands of coconut trees, blanketing the floor right up to the towering mountains as far as the eye can see. Visit early in the morning or late in the afternoon to see the golden hour light bounce off of the sea of green leaves. Location 📌

Siargao Coconut Trees Viewpoint. Best Thing To Do

Take a break from the busy town of General Luna and spend the day exploring the paradise islands surrounding Siargao: Guyam, Daku & Naked Islands. For only $15-20 you can join a shared tour, or if you have a group of friends/family it makes sense to get a private boat for the day. Location 📌

Maasin River - Jumping Platform In The Heart Of Siargao

A jumping platform built on the banks of the Maasin River in the heart of Siargao offers tourists a chance to spend some time jumping into the river or take a relaxing dip. There are also traditional boats that you can take down the river through the tropical trees to a secret pool. Location 📌

Alegria Beach - Pristine White Sand Beach With Some Peace & Quiet

Escape to the northernmost tip of the island to spend the day relaxing at Siargao’s quietest beach. Crystal clear blue water, white sand, tropical palm trees and a choice of bars and restaurants to choose from make this place perfect to relax. Not a surf beach like the rest of the island, but you can go for a dip in the shallow waters, a slice of pure paradise. Location 📌

Bugak Cold Spring - A Hidden Tropical Pool Surrounded By Nature

In the middle of Siargao’s mangrove forest, sits this cold spring nestled in nature. You can hire a kayak, go for a swim or sit in the shade from the trees above, unlike a lot of the tourist spots in this list, here you can take the time to relax. Location 📌

Pacifico Beach - The Surfers Paradise

Pacifico Beach stands out as a highlight and a must-see on the island, known for its world class waves for both beginners and intermediate levels. The town of Pacifico is the other common hub for tourists, the first being General Luna, which in peak season can get quite busy. This is the much more laid back alternative and Pacifico Beach sits right in front of the town, with perfect white sand, legendary waves and picture perfect palm trees. Location 📌

Day Trip To Sohoton Cove - Explore Stunning Caves And Lagoons

This place doesn’t even look real! Take a day trip to the Sohoton Cove or spend a few nights there and explore the surrounding caves and lagoons. The vibrant blue water in contrast with the bright green mangrove islands make for some epic drone shots, a truly epic tourist spot in Siargao. Location 📌

Beto Cold Spring - Peace & Quiet In The Heart Of Nature

A refreshing pool provides the perfect way to cool off from the heat of the midday sun, especially if you want to escape the crowded beaches and busyness of General Luna. Immerse yourself in the tropical jungle and take a trip to Beto Cold Spring, watch the dragonflies flitter past, hire a boat, cliff jump or just relax. Location 📌

Spend a few hours exploring the deep turquoise colour tidal pools, exposed during low tide which create a playground of cliff jumping, creature spotting and rock scrambling. If that’s not your style you can bask in the warm waters and soak up the Philippine sunshine along Magpupungko Beach, a beautiful stretch of white sand. . The most popular way to get to Siargao is by flight, we recommend using a flight price aggregator such as WayAway to find the best prices before booking

Alternatively, if you're on a budget you can get an overnight ferry to Surigao City (8 hours) and then another ferry onto Siargao (1 hour). This is a much longer travel journey however a good option if you want to avoid the expensive flights.

How To Get To Cloud 9/General Luna From The Airport?

To get to Cloud 9 and General Luna from the airport, your best bet for a solo traveller is in a shared van for ₽375, this will drop you off on the main road where you need to be.

Alternatively, for small groups a tricycle is the cheapest option which should cost roughly ₽600 which works out cheaper when split between 2 or 3.

Siargao has lots of accommodation whether you’re looking for a surf school, a luxury resort or a budget hostel you’ll be able to find somewhere.

We recommend staying in the main hub of General Luna as this is where most of the restaurants are located, as well as easy access to most of the island's attractions. If you want to get away from the crowds you could head up north and stay in Pacifico, which is the northern hub of the island best known for its epic waves.

Where We Stayed In General Luna

We chose the budget option of Dream Catcher Nipas when staying in General Luna mainly due to the kitchen which allowed us to cook our own breakfasts and lunches. These are very basic triangular huts which have mattresses on the floor so don't expect anything fancy, but the location is perfect for General Luna and the grounds are lovely.

Top Tips For Travelling The Philippines

If you’re visiting the Philippines here are our top travel tips:

  1. Book flights in advance - they can become expensive if you leave it last minute… oh and check your luggage allowance to skip expensive check in fees at the airport. Don't forget your Apple Airtags to track your bags

  2. Agree on taxi prices upfront - when getting into a tuk-tuk, tricycle or taxi, make sure you agree on a price or they have a meter, so many tourists get ripped off with a huge price tag at the end of the ride.

  3. Take it slow - don't feel the need to see all the islands, we recommend picking a few and doing them properly. See the island in full, find some locals and sing Karaoke..

  4. Embrace the chaos and get stuck in, the locals are friendly and love to help and share information about their home!

  5. For a checklist of what's needed to pack for your trip, read: How to Pack for Backpacking to South East Asia: Backpacking Essentials and Accessories
